Beginner guide
Choose add or reverse first
Use add mode when you know the pre-tax price and want the final total. Use reverse mode when you already have the total and want to know the price before tax.
This works for VAT, GST, sales tax, or any similar percentage tax as long as you enter the correct rate.
- Add mode: price before tax becomes final price.
- Reverse mode: final price is split into pre-tax price and tax.
- If several taxes apply, combine the effective rate only when that matches local rules.
Formula
Add mode: total = price x (1 + tax rate). Reverse mode: pre-tax price = total / (1 + tax rate).
Example
$100 at an 8.25% tax rate totals $108.25.
Result notes
- Results are estimates based on the values you enter.
- Calculators with schedules show how values change over time.
- For financial, health, or construction decisions, compare these estimates with professional advice when needed.
